Democracy Deficit in the EU – Nonsense!
There seems to be general agreement that the EU suffers from a democracy deficit. This claim has become so accepted that no-one feels they need to justify it anymore. If one wishes to explain it seems perfectly adequate only to state that “the EU is distant” or “citizens do not vote in the European Parliament elections”. An opposing argument is that the European Union is rather close to citizens in comparison with the church or the trade union movement.
