THE WORKING CAPACITY OF IMMIGRANTS IN 2008

Published: 11.11.2008
In this survey study Pellervo Economic Research Institute evaluated the current working capacity of immigrants to Finland. Researchers also compared their working capacity with that of employed and unemployed native Finns.

Foreign birth had no significant negative effect on individual working capacity, and 87 per cent of immigrants were found to have an excellent or good working capacity. The working capacity of employed immigrants was found to be as good as that of Finnish wage and salary earners, with approximately 90 per cent of employed immigrants having a good or excellent working capacity.

Moreover, a good or excellent working capacity was recorded among 76 per cent of unemployed immigrants. This figure is higher than among native born unemployed persons. Thus, immigrants represent an underused employment resource.
