Mari K. Niemi is the research director of E2 Research. She has years of experience in the design, implementation and management of multidisciplinary research projects as well as high-level stakeholder work. She is actively involved in public debates and research communication. For these merits, she was awarded Scientist of the Year in 2015 by The Finnish Union of University Researchers and Teachers.
Mari K. Niemi has also become well-known as an active commentator and columnist in areas such as election campaigning, political speeches and Scottish politics. In addition to scientific publications, she has worked as a journalist and written several books popularizing science.
In 2018–2020, Mari K. Niemi launched InnoLab at the University of Vaasa as its first director. She initiated and led several research projects, and developed a multidisciplinary, international research platform with the University of Vaasa and stakeholders. She was also a member of the university management team.
From 2013 to 2017, Mari K. Niemi lived abroad and worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow (4 years), the University of Gothenburg (2 months) and the University of Valencia (9 months). Prior to her university career, Niemi studied fashion design and worked as a product manager in an international company.
