Welcome to E2 Connect: Navigating career paths for international academics in Finnish companies - a networking event aimed at international academics in Finland organized by the project Small and Midsize Enterprises and Foreign Workforce in Finland (PIKEUS).

Join us on Friday 6 June in Helsinki to explore opportunities for international academics to collaborate with companies in Finland, gain valuable insights into recruitment practices, and expand your professional network. Connect with fellow international researchers, as well as experts from E2 Research over a cup of coffee and light refreshments.

Our panel discussion "Navigating career paths for international academics in Finnish companies" will be moderated by our very own Mari K. Niemi, Director at E2 Research.

Our impressive panelists include:

Glenn Gassen, Director of Migration Affairs, the City of Helsinki

Glenn Gassen was appointed as Head of Immigration services at the City of Helsinki in April 2023. Previously he worked as Director of Innovation, Growth & Invest In at Enter Espoo. He was responsible for Invest in services at Enter Espoo and for international affairs at the Mayor’s Office of the City of Espoo. He has also worked, for example, in the German-Finnish Chamber of Commerce. Gassen has studied political science and graduated as an EMBA.

Heidi Lehtovaara, Doctoral Researcher, Tampere University

Heidi Lehtovaara is a Doctoral Researcher at Tampere University (Social Sciences/Working Life Studies). Her dissertation focuses on job search experiences of skilled migrant women. She also works as a Junior Researcher at Work Research Center (WRC) and has a strong background in Management (Change and Project Management). Lehtovaara also serves as an expert evaluator of the Fulbright Finland Foundation (2021-2024) and collaborates with various networks and programs to promote a more equitable working environment in Finland.

Elina Koskela, Vice President, Global Talent Solution, Barona

Elina Koskela is EVP for Global Talent Solutions in Barona. She has been working with recruitment industry for over 20 years and with Global Talents for more than 15 years. During her carrier, she has seen big changes internally within Finland but also how attractive Finland is seen in different regions.  Elina has been involved in many pilot projects where companies have recruited their first global talents and has gained insigt on both bottlenecks and benefit. She keeps sparring companies on global recruitment related issues whenever possibly.

Apramey Dube, Senior Research Manager, Cambri

Apramey works as Senior Research Manager at Cambri. With 10+ years of profound expertise of working in Finland, Apramey creates actionable consumer insights for FMCG and other verticals. By blending his engineering background with a Ph.D. in marketing, Apramey empowers clients to take key business decisions.

Eero Manninen, Senior Advisor, Technology Finland

Eero Manninen works in the Technology Industries of Finland as a senior advisor, and his responsibilities include issues related to labor migration. Among their more than 1800 member companies, there are many that are increasingly recruiting international talent - including researchers. He wants to play his part in making this happen smoothly and responsibly.

Youssef Zad, Chief Economist, Finnish Startup Community

Youssef Zad works as the chief economist for the Finnish Startup Community. He is in charge of producing research and statistics from startups and the Finnish startup ecosystem. In his work he also drafts policy recommendations that would help startups grow faster and generate new jobs and tax revenue for Finland.
